Advocate's New Head Honcho May 20, 2009 (LOS ANGELES) – The Advocate, the world’s leading LGBT news source, announced today that Mark Smelzer has been named publisher of the iconic Advocate brand. In his new role, Smelzer will develop and execute strategic, multi-platform sales initiatives for new and existing clients aiming to target the coveted LGBT consumer. Smelzer will be based in The Advocate’s Los Angeles office.
“I’m thrilled that Mark is joining Regent Media as Publisher of The Advocate,” said Joe Landry, Senior Vice President and Group Publisher for The Advocate’s parent company, Regent Media. “Mark has extensive experience in media sales and commands respect throughout the industry. As the company continues to focus on solutions based multi-platform sales opportunities, Mark will lead the charge for The Advocate.”
Smelzer comes to The Advocate with over 20 years of publishing experience. He spent that last five years as publisher of the JCK Publishing Group, the nation’s leading jewelry trade publications and websites. While at JCK, Smelzer oversaw the redesign and expansion of the company’s publications. In addition to winning editorial awards both in print and online, he created the JCK Jewelers Choice Awards, the first jewelry design contest voted on by retailers.
Prior to joining JCK, Smelzer was associate publisher of the entertainment trade Variety. While at Variety, Smelzer was a part of the launch team of Vlife, a lifestyle consumer publication for the Variety audience. He also oversaw the New York office of the trade and formed extensive connections in the film, television, and legit theater industries.
Prior to Variety, Smelzer held key positions in the media world, including publisher of the trendsetting Buzz magazine and advertising director of the online network L90. Smelzer earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from UCLA.

The Anaconda Retires Ricky "Mr Anaconda" Martinez according to sources is retiring from porn (and also from escorting). A mass email went out this weekend to his more than 4000 plus member fans to his website. The unconfirmed news comes as a surprise to us considering Ricky just launched a big budgeted website and marketing campaign. Hotsapien attempted to contact his business manager but our calls have not been returned yet. After dropping a project with Latinstudz.com, news from Ricky's camp ceased. Our insider had a candid phone chat with Ricky back in January when Ricky mentioned his appearance at club Splash in New York would probably be his last public appearance as a porn icon.
Whatever Ricky decides to do next no one knows, but we're sure he'll always remain a private married family man. We'll keep you posted on Mr. Anaconda's next moves. P.R.

Off Again...On Again Several months ago, press from Colt announced that porn's current number 1 couple, Carlo Masi and Adam Champ were leaving the stable. Well, guess what.... They're back, back at Colt that is and not only that they're doing another Mexican tour. Fans south of the border will get another chance to meat and greet the studly duo when they perform at various nightspots, starting in Guadalajara.
If you're driving down there for a cheap Botox fix, do yourself a favor and go check out Colt sexiest couple. They'll be shaking their stuff around Mexico through June 2008. Doubtful that they'll be hitting any bodegas in the Chiapas.P.R.

Carlo in the pool 2010 already and another year zooms by us! Some would say it's the "quickening of time". Well, I would say everything is relative. Winter is here for many of us around the world, while summer for others. But as all of you Hotsapien lovers know: it's always hot here!

This issue is no different from any other. We've served up a sweet blend of muscle, sensually accented with an Italian voice and dotted ever so softly with manly body hair in all the right places.
